1# Ignoring the importance of commenting
Just as sharing is important, commenting is important as well. If you comment on other blogs and social media in knowledgeable, thought-provoking ways, you’ll also look like an expert. People will answer your comments, they’ll come to your blog, and you’ll increase your audience. You’ll become part of the blogging community in your niche, which leads to more readers, more money, and a better reputation. This increases your blog karma as well, and keeps your name out there.
2# Not having a strategy
This is obvious, isn’t it? You should think before you act, and the same goes for marketing with social media as well. If you don’t have time to create a full strategic social media marketing plan, create a “napkin plan” at least. Make sure to clearly state your objectives (what exactly you want to reach) and steps how to reach those objectives.
3# Strategizing too much without experimenting
Another mistake is strategizing too much without experimenting. Any marketing specialist will tell you there is a lot of experimentation in marketing. Social media marketing is not an exception. Don’t write 100 pages of a plan for 3 months only to find out that half of the suggested strategies and tactics don’t work!
4# Posting only about your business
This is one of the most common mistakes that businesses make. Social media is all about sharing, don’t post only about your business, products or services – people will get bored and you will lose a lot of targeted customers.
5# Not posting engaging comments
Engagement is good to make your post to spread virally on social media networks Each time a person likes, comments, shares, or retweets your update it will get noticed by that person’s friends. That’s worth a new topic to blog about, but make sure to include call-to-action in your updates also funny, beautiful, or though-provoking pictures are always good.
6# Not replying to customers comments or replying really slowly
It doesn’t feel good when you have to wait for a response to your question or comment for two or three days. It feels even worse when you never get a response. So, make sure to reply to comments on your Facebook page, mentions on Twitter, and other attempts of your followers to engage with you on other social networks.
7# You are Over-Promoting or Worse, Only-Promoting
No need to constantly sell, sell, sell. people eventually ignore constant pitching if they don’t find value in your posts. It may be difficult for a locksmith to post about something more than locks and keys but if you can’t find a way to connect in an interesting discussion with your community, social media might not be the best tool for your marketing. Provide value and entertainment consistently so people want to stay tuned to your broadcast. Then hopefully they’ll remember your brand when it’s time to buy.
